The Extang Solid Fold ALX, part 88445, is a three-panel hard folding tonneau for the 5 ft. 8 in. short box on 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickups and on the 2019 carryover-body Silverado 1500 LD and Sierra 1500 Limited. It is the hard-panel step up from Extang's vinyl tri-folds, and the panels are the reason: one-inch-thick EnduraShield TPO over an aircraft-grade aluminum frame, rated to carry up to 600 lb. spread evenly across the closed cover.

Where the ALX earns its price is the latch. Extang's Secure Rotary Release Latching System auto-latches when you drop the cover, so there is no reaching under a panel to feel for a cable. Tool-free Jaw-Grip front clamps mean the whole cover goes on without a wrench, and integrated buckle straps hold the stack against the cab when you fold it forward for two-thirds bed access.

Fitment

88445 covers the 5 ft. 8 in. box on 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2014-2018 GMC Sierra 1500. It also covers the 2019 model year carryover trucks, which GM sold as the Silverado 1500 LD and the Sierra 1500 Limited and which Extang's catalog calls Legacy or Classic. Does not fit the 2019 and newer redesigned Silverado or Sierra 1500 - that truck's 5 ft. 10 in. box takes 88456. The 6.5 ft. box on this same 2014-2018 generation, and on the 2015-2019 heavy duties, is 88450.

Does 88445 fit a 2019 Silverado 1500?

Only the 2019 carryover truck. If your 2019 wears the LD or Legacy badge (GMC: Sierra 1500 Limited), 88445 is correct. If it is the redesigned 2019 body, you need 88456 for the 5 ft. 10 in. box or 88457 for the 6.5 ft. box.

How much weight will the Solid Fold ALX hold?

Extang rates it at up to 600 lb. evenly distributed across the closed cover. That is a distributed rating, not a point load, so spread the cargo rather than standing on one panel.

Can I open the tailgate and still use the bed with the cover on?
