Key Features

  • Mono Class-D subwoofer amplifier: 320 W RMS at 4 ohm, 550 W RMS at 2 ohm
  • CEA-2006-A rated 300 W x 1, total power 1400 W
  • Compact 8.46 x 7.48 x 1.97 in chassis at 4.27 lb for tight mounting locations
  • Bypassable 50 to 250 Hz lo-pass filter at 24 dB per octave
  • Switchable 25 Hz subsonic filter at 24 dB per octave
  • Bass boost adjustable 0 to 12 dB at 50 Hz and 0 to 180 degree phase control
  • Hi-Pass pre-amplified outputs allow a band-pass on the front woofers
  • Speaker-In and RCA Pre-In inputs suit factory or aftermarket head units

The Hertz HCP1D is a mono Class-D subwoofer amplifier from the Hertz Compact Power series, rated 320 W RMS at 4 ohm and 550 W RMS at 2 ohm, built on a deliberately minimised heat sink so it fits installs where a full-size mono amplifier will not.

Key Benefits

  • 320 W RMS at 4 ohm and 550 W RMS at 2 ohm at 1 percent THD, rising to 380 W and 700 W at 10 percent THD, with a CEA-2006-A rating of 300 W x 1.
  • Small footprint for the output: an 8.46 x 7.48 in chassis only 1.97 in tall, weighing 4.27 lb, which is what makes it viable under a seat or behind a panel.
  • Complete but fully bypassable crossover section: 50 to 250 Hz lo-pass at 24 dB per octave plus a switchable 25 Hz subsonic filter, also 24 dB per octave.
  • Bass boost adjustable from 0 to 12 dB at 50 Hz and continuously variable 0 to 180 degree phase control for aligning the sub with the front stage.
  • Hi-Pass pre-amplified outputs let you build a band-pass on the front woofers from the same amplifier.
  • Speaker-In inputs accept 0.8 to 20 V RMS from a factory radio and RCA Pre-In accepts 0.2 to 5 V RMS from an aftermarket deck.
  • Remote subwoofer level control over a -50 to +6 dB range using the optional Hertz HRC accessory.

Fitment

The HCP1D is a universal 12-volt amplifier rather than a vehicle-specific part. It works on any negative-ground system running 11 to 15 VDC, which covers cars, trucks, SUVs and side-by-sides. Practical fitment comes down to space and load: the chassis is 8.46 x 7.48 x 1.97 in, minimum load impedance is 2 ohm, and the amplifier carries two 25 A fuses with a maximum draw of 25 A at 2 ohm and 14.4 VDC.

Wire dual-voice-coil subwoofers so the final load lands on 2 or 4 ohm. Running below 2 ohm is outside the published rating.

Inside the Hertz range the model number matters. The HCP1D is the standard-power mono Compact Power amplifier at 320 W RMS into 4 ohm; the HCP1DK is the higher-power mono model in the same family, rated 740 W at 4 ohm on a longer 12.40 in chassis with three 30 A fuses. If you need four channels rather than one, the HCP 4D and HCP 4DK are the matching multi-channel models. Hertz publishes no IP or salt-fog rating for the HCP1D, so mount it in a dry, protected location; the marine-rated model in the Compact Power family is the HCP 4M.

FAQ

How much power does the Hertz HCP1D make?

320 W RMS x 1 at 4 ohm and 550 W RMS x 1 at 2 ohm, rated at 14.4 VDC and 1 percent THD. At 10 percent THD the figures are 380 W and 700 W, and the CEA-2006-A rating is 300 W x 1.

What is the difference between the HCP1D and the HCP1DK?

Power and size. The HCP1D makes 320 W at 4 ohm on an 8.46 in chassis with two 25 A fuses. The HCP1DK makes 740 W at 4 ohm on a 12.40 in chassis with three 30 A fuses. They share the same filter set and input arrangement.

Is the Hertz HCP1D stable at 1 ohm?

No. Hertz specifies a minimum load impedance of 2 ohm, so wire the subwoofer to present 2 or 4 ohm at the amplifier.

Does the HCP1D come with a remote bass knob?

Remote subwoofer level control over a -50 to +6 dB range is supported through the optional Hertz HRC accessory, which Hertz lists as a separate item.
